Cling film clinging to your buttercream is the single most common way decorations get ruined. Here are five quick tricks to keep wrap off the frosting — the last one solves it for good.
- Chill before covering. Firm buttercream resists sticking far better than soft.
- Build a toothpick tent (in a pinch). Tall toothpicks can hold wrap up — but they're short, sharp, and tip over easily.
- Use an upturned bowl or box — if you happen to have one that's tall and wide enough, which for a decorated cake you rarely do.
- Freeze then wrap for short trips, so the surface is rock-firm.
- Use Icing Saver picks. Purpose-built, food-grade, 4" picks that hold the wrap into a protective tent above the decorations — reusable and made for exactly this.
Tricks 1–4 help, but they're workarounds. Icing Saver is the tool designed for the job: insert, tent, done.
