Sheet cakes are the hardest to cover: they're wide, flat, and no standard cake box seems to fit. The result is usually plastic wrap dragged straight across the frosting. Here's how to cover a full or half sheet without flattening a single rosette.
The problem with sheet cakes
Because the surface is large and level, any cover you lay on top makes contact across the whole cake. You need something to hold the covering up across the entire span — not just at the edges.
The fix
- Space Icing Saver picks in a grid across the sheet — roughly one every 4–5 inches — so the tops form an even "table" above the decorations.
- Lay plastic wrap or foil over the grid of picks. It spans across the tops and stays off the frosting.
- For extra height on tall borders, use the flat-top picks — the wider heads give the covering more to rest on.
- Transport on the flattest surface you have, and keep it cool.
